In October 2009 the team at Buffelsfontein Gold Mine completed an ambitious project to repair and restore the high grade Number Five shaft back to full working order following extensive damage as a result of an earthquake in March 2005. It took over two years and R60 million to complete. Here's what they had to contend with and this is the result.
